With nearly 50 years of combined consumer debt and real estate experience we can offer many more creative solutions than the typical bankruptcy law firm or credit counseling agency.
Beware of Bankruptcy "Factories"
Bankruptcy law practice tends to be the type repetitive paper shuffling that creates a tendency by many bankruptcy law firms to simply run you through their bankruptcy "factory." They simply fill in the forms for you, file them with the court and go through a five minute court hearing with a dozen or so other clients on the same day. Because it's so automatic and most attorneys don't have the time to spend with you, most of the work is usually done by paralegals. These paralegals are often inexperienced and are never allowed to look deeply into your case, listen to what your needs are, and advise you on your best legal options. A bankruptcy firm that only prepares bankruptcy petitions is likley to put every one of their clinets into a bankruptcy case, even if a non-bankruptcy approach would have been their best option.
Beware of Credit "Counselors"
A counselor by definition listens to your problems and helps you with solutions. But many for-profit credit counselors, and even the non-profit ones, are often funded by the credit card companies. Yes, they are created to make sure you continue to pay these debts, and you are the one who pays their fees! The people that work for these companies usually do their best to counsel you, but their company policies that favor lending institutions simply can't allow you the best options to handle your debts.
